CASE STUDY #1

End-to-end testing of new core banking system prior to bank launch.

A blue swirl background

The Zanoo team successfully delivered end-to-end testing of the Challenger Bank’s new mortgage originations system, prior to their launch to the market.

Client Context

This Challenger Bank was set to launch into the UK market in 2023, with a mortgage offering to customers. To enable a successful launch, the client was implementing a core banking system. This involved a front-end broker portal, underwriter portal and case completion portal, as well as integrations with external systems. The client was rightly unwilling to compromise on the quality or reliability of their software and, as a result, required an expedited delivery of software testing capabilities.

Our Approach

Zanoo delivered thorough and professionally managed end-to-end testing of the bank’s mortgage originations system. This was supported by our deep knowledge and subject matter expertise of the UK mortgage market. We collaborated closely with client stakeholders and external suppliers, to ensure the agile ways-of-working proved successful and enabled continuous and gradual testing, as functionality was built and released fortnightly. Our use of tools such as Jira and Xray ensured accurate management and visibility of all testing activities. Our team worked closely with the suppliers on environment and release management, ensuring comprehensive testing of the system and integrations, using proven test techniques.

  • Zanoo acted as independent testing partner for the Challenger Bank, managing and performing all phases and activities of testing, including System Integration Testing and User Acceptance Testing. Our approach in this engagement involved manual, human-led testing.

  • As part of the Zanoo resources deployed, we provided Test Management capability. This ensured that a Test Strategy and Governance approach was in place from the outset to provide structure, authority and advisory on all testing matters. This resource also created and managed a detailed Test Plan, as well as regular test reports and performance of defect management.

  • Early engagement on the project involved performing a full analysis of the system requirements and creating comprehensive and extensive test coverage.

  • The Zanoo team were responsible for identifying defects on the system through thorough test execution, reporting these defects to developers and re-testing to ensure defects were fixed. This required close collaboration with development teams to investigate defects, resolve critical issues and ensure product quality.

  • To support fortnightly releases, our team conducted regular smoke testing. We also created and maintained a suite of 500+ regression tests that were regularly executed to confirm the quality of the deployments.

  • The team provided detailed test reports and metrics, offering valuable insights into test progression, system performance and areas for improvement and efficiency.

  • CRA testing was undertaken as part of our approach to ensure that rewards were correctly received and allocated for the right customers.

  • Once the bank was live and operational, we continued to deliver post-go live support by way of testing functionality updates and configuration changes. These updates included enhancements to the MVP that increased the client’s offering for customers, which were thoroughly tested by our team through defect identification, reporting and re-testing.
